Why do governments take credit for freedom of speech?

A government doesn't provide freedom of speech, my voice box provides freedom of speech. But for some reason people think that just because a government doesn't hunt you down and electrocute you for 26 years for calling them s, they are worthy of praise and become worthy leaders of the best Goddamn nation on earth. Some idiots now are probably saying "at least that's better than what they do in underdeveloped countries!". I live in a f*cking underdeveloped country, I live in the Middle East home of dictatorships and regimes, yet the moment I discovered I had a voicebox, I decided I'll say whatever the f*ck I want to say, I don't need a government to lie and say it's working to provide me with a right that I had anyway.
