Should we simplify the English irregularities?

That would be artificially prescribing the way people speak, for the purposes of making English a lingua franca, and it would be met with resistance. I think English being a lingua franca has more to do with Britain and the U.S. being dominant superpowers during colonial and modern times, and not because of its simplicity. Such would change when shifts in power change. We might all be speaking Chinese in the distant future.
